Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between sertanejo raiz and sertanejo universitário?
Sertanejo raiz ("root" sertanejo) tends to stay close to caipira music, with acoustic instruments such as the viola and themes of the countryside and simple life. Sertanejo universitário brought the genre closer to pop, with a more produced sound and lyrics about urban daily life and relationships.
What is the viola caipira?
It is a stringed instrument with double strings tuned in pairs, widely used in the music of the Brazilian interior. Its distinctive sound is one of the marks of traditional sertanejo.
